Project Context
The Dubai Water Canal, delivered by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and inaugurated in 2016, runs about 3.2km from Business Bay through Safa Park and Jumeirah to the Arabian Gulf. Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Road cross it on bridges, and the corridor includes public walkways, cycle tracks and infrastructure serving property development on both banks. Surface water from these roads, bridges and public spaces can carry oil, fuel residue and silt.
Any pollutants left untreated risk reaching the canal itself. The drainage network therefore had to intercept hydrocarbons before discharge and stay watertight below ground, where groundwater and the nearby waterway place constant pressure on every joint and penetration.
The Solution
Separators that treat run-off before it reaches the canal, connected into the network with long-life flexible seals.
The Marsh range includes bypass separators for lower-risk areas such as roads and car parks, and full-retention separators for higher-risk zones. Each is designed and tested to BS EN 858 Parts 1 & 2.
Coalescing filters, oil skimmer plates and automatic closure devices retain oil within the separator. The Marsh range has achieved discharge results below 0.1mg/litre, well under the 5mg/litre Class 1 standard.
VIPSeal® adaptor couplings join pipes of different sizes and materials and connect them into chambers and separators. Stainless steel tension bands give a robust seal that is quick to fit.
VIPSeal® puddle flanges seal pipes passing through concrete walls and structures, protecting chambers from water ingress in a high groundwater setting.
Together, these products keep pollutants out of the canal and groundwater out of the drainage network, with separation and sealing specified as one system.
Project Outcome
Run-off from the canal corridor is designed to pass through separation before discharge, helping protect the canal's water quality and the public spaces along it.
By coordinating Marsh and VIP Seal as a single package, DND ensures separators and connections are compatible and specified correctly, approved and ready to install, first time.
